bascially i do comics at university (wow yes you cna do this!! I'm so lucky ='D ) and during the first year, they always said to me; 'don;t draw manga style, oh yeah, your style is OK, but it's still too manga, we don;t want to see any infleunces of manga'

i see where they are coming from, because i do often see 40yr olds who just started drawing, and only want to copy manga, not learn to draw in general. (if you see what i mean- there is a difference between copying a style and having infleunce from style)

i guess my teachers were always worried that i was trying too hard to copy, and assume i never had infleunce from manga.

but the thing is, me, and everyone else i know who draw in this semi manga style, i just think we cannot help it! last year i went through a mass fustration trying so hard to make the way i draw anytihng but manga, as did everyone else i know who had this problem. we just kind of realised- hey!! we GREW UP WITH THIS STUFF! i mean..i was jsut thinking, yeah- what was on TV when i was growing up...digimon, monster rancher, sailor moon, escaflowne, astro boy, flint the time detective, pokemon, medabots, ect. ect.

i think it was always what i was watching, along side all those beautiful 90's cartoons ='D (I have a lto of respect for them) but i don't think we can get rid of that infleunce of manga.. as long as we take it as infleunce =)

sorry, that were random;; *hug party*

ps. i hope people are understanding what is going on here in the story =S

Striped Orange Socks

fdhfsajkfljdasf that Shinchan is just so. Adorable. Ohmygawd, I mean, it's just sdfhsdjkalf. I can't believe I've never seen it.

I'm still following this comic. :D Awesome Opossum.

I'm... a copier. All my besties were always better than me at drawing, so I'd take certain characteristics and styles from them and make them my own. ;____; Now I kind of feel like a cheater xD

Arwym Starlight

Everything but Shin-chan, hahah! I detested that kid. XD

There is one particular series that seems to me was anime, yet I don't remember its name... I saw it when I was still a little girl in local TV, but then it disappeared, and I never heard of it again. It was a Kodomo (Anime for children), I think. I'll tell you more about it later.

Anyway, about drawing manga, it is true what you say. Very hard to get rid of the influence. What they don't realize is, as you say, that we on the last few generations have grown up attached to these works. They're movements, to an extent. And it is part of the mainstream world now. Hard to ignore it.

Right, it is also true we must start with realism. That is the fundation. But after that stage is past, we should be free to develop our styles however we feel. I hear about this all the time. Art students who go through this same situation.
